Prefinished hardwood flooring, also known as "factory finished flooring," means the stain and finish are applied during manufacturing in a controlled environment. Prefinished flooring comes in both solid hardwood where it is wood all the way through and engineered where it is made up of layers where only the top layer is true hardwood. Engineered is a good option on concrete where solid is not feasible or if you want hardwood planks over 5" wide.
Prefinished hardwood flooring is durable, low maintenance and comes in a wide variety of wood species, colors and textures. The stains and coatings are applied over real hardwood and dried in a controlled factory environment, creating a durable finish and this means getting your flooring project finished quicker.
Can you sand and refinish prefinished hardwood floors?
Depends. You can sand and refinish solid hardwood prefinished flooring multiple times. Engineered flooring only has a few layers of real wood and may not be able to sanded.
We install prefinished flooring in any situation or location of the home besides a full bathroom due to the moisture. In basements, we recommend LVP since it is 100% waterproof. Many times, guests will ask if the prefinished floors are prefinished or done onsite because they can't always tell. We take the time to make sure the flooring installed correctly and looks great no matter if it is prefinished hardwood flooring or onsite finished.

Jason and his team did a great job from start to finish for less than many of the estimates we received. Jason spent significant time with us discussing his process, product options and addressing specific issues he could remedy with our 50 year old red oak floors. The crew showed up on time each and every day and were meticulous with dust control during the sanding process and even more detailed during staining and finishing. The finished product transformed our home.
